The Best of Both Worlds

Studies show that bilingual hands-on learning is especially effective because students can acquire new knowledge from physical experience and language simultaneously, allowing the two to become more intricately and meaningfully associated in the brain. In fact, Fred Genesee, a well-respected researcher in the field of bilingualism at McGill University, specifically states that “cooperative learning, peer coaching, and other … interactive, student-centered classrooms are more likely to yield the full benefits of bilingual education than those that are teacher-centered” (Genesee, 2008).

Student-led, experiential, cooperative learning with older and younger classroom peers are the hallmarks of a quality Montessori education. Thus, with the intention of providing children with the best possible foundation for their formative years, preschool students at Emerson Academy (from 18 months to 5 years of age) will receive their Montessori education each day in both English and French.

By creating an enriched, bilingual, Montessori curriculum in this fashion, Emerson Academy succeeds in giving your child the best of both worlds.

"The secret of education lies in respecting the child."

-R.W. Emerson

At our school, we believe wholeheartedly that sparking a child's interest in a wide range of subjects and activities will allow him or her to develop a love of learning that will see them thrive in many other aspects of life. Similarly, developing character education is integral and incredibly important. Every Emerson Academy student benefits from age-appropriate structured and unstructured character education, both inside and outside of the classroom. Through the Montessori method, our preschoolers inherently learn respectfulness, self-motivation and self-confidence. Additionally, each and every adult your child comes into contact with at Emerson Academy takes character building one step further by seizing and creating opportunities daily to teach our students values and prosocial skills such as empathy, integrity, loyalty, generosity, honesty, critical thinking and self-discipline, just to name a few.

Below are some additional highlights of the enhanced bilingual curriculum that you can expect your child to receive at Emerson Academy/Montessori2You. Please feel free to contact us for more details and to learn how you can give your child an education that provides the best of both worlds.
